Why ordinary random groups keep repeating
A random group generator starts from scratch every time. It has no idea that Leo and Amara sat together on Monday, so on Wednesday it is just as likely to put them together again. Over a few weeks, the same pairs keep turning up, and students notice.
MixMyClass keeps a record of every mix you save. When you mix again, it looks at that history and prefers groups where students meet people they haven't worked with yet. It also steers students away from the table they sat at last time, and recent lessons count more than older ones.
What it can and can't promise
MixMyClass keeps repeats as low as it can, and shows you how many repeat pairs each mix has. It does not promise zero repeats, because that isn't always possible: in a class of 9 split into 3 groups, everyone has worked with everyone else after just 4 lessons. In a class of 25, fresh groups last far longer.
After each mix you see a plain result, such as “0 repeat pairs · 1 student in the same studio”, so you always know what you're getting.
How to use it
- Paste your class list above and press Mix for instant groups. No account needed.
- To make it remember between lessons, choose “Save this class”. Your class opens in the full tool.
- Each lesson, mark who's away, mix, and save the groups you use. The next mix builds on them.
- Show the groups on the projector with a short reveal, or print them.
Where student names are kept
Names stay in your browser on your own device. If you want your classes on more than one computer, you can connect your own Google Drive. MixMyClass has no server that stores student names, and no analytics or advertising.
