Seating plan for group tablesSeat your class at group tables, fresh every lesson

MixMyClass makes a random seating plan for classrooms set out in group tables, and remembers past lessons so students sit with new people and at different tables.

MixMyClass seats students at group tables, not in rows. If you need a desk-by-desk chart for a room in rows, this isn't the right tool.

Made for rooms with tables, labs and studios

If your students sit around tables, benches or lab stations, a seating plan is really a set of groups: who sits at table 1, who sits at table 2, and so on. MixMyClass calls each table a studio and numbers them, so you can match them to the tables in your room.

Choose how many tables you have, mark who's away today, and mix. Everyone present gets a seat, and absent students are left out without touching your class list.

New people and a new table, lesson after lesson

When you save a seating plan, MixMyClass remembers it. Next lesson it prefers to seat students with people they haven't sat with yet, and away from the table they had last time. These are two separate things, and MixMyClass reports both: how many pairs are sitting together again, and how many students are back at the same table.

Repeats get rarer each lesson, but they can't always be avoided. A small class runs out of new combinations faster than a big one, and MixMyClass tells you honestly when that happens.

Rules for the table plan you need

  • Keep two students apart, or keep two together.
  • Keep two students off neighbouring tables (tables next to each other in number).
  • Lock a student to a table, for example near the front or near a socket.
  • Set a maximum table size.
  • Must rules are always kept. If they can't all be met, MixMyClass explains why instead of quietly breaking one.

Show it on the board

Present the plan on the projector with big, readable names and an optional suspense reveal, table by table. Your private rules and notes never appear on the projected screen. You can also print it or copy it into a document.

Questions teachers ask

Yes, if your classroom is set out in tables. MixMyClass puts students into groups at numbered tables (it calls them studios), and remembers each saved plan so the next one seats students with new people and away from last lesson's table.
